Well, our running shoes are packed, the 700 miles of training runs in rain, sleet and snow are behind us, the fund-raising is all done, and we've been jabbed for tetanus, typhoid, yellow fever, cholera, e-coli and about half a dozen other exotic diseases...AND we're off! Only 20 hours flying time to catch the twice-weekly plane that provides the only access to the world's most remote, inhabited island (population 3,000). We are amongst the 43-strong Team Diabetes members who will compete as part of an international field of 70 entrants in the Easter Island Marathon and Half Marathon. A hearty slap on the back to all of our friends, family and clients who made it all possible, by donating to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Regrettably, there will be no cell phone or internet access on our jaunt, so I will be completely unplugged from the office. Sigh. |
