As part of the legal team that assisted the Tsawwassen First Nation Band Council with a number of estate matters, I am honoured to be a guest at the formal ceremony marking the signing of the historic treaty between the band and the Federal and Provincial government on 3rd April, 2009. Canada's first modern, urban treaty gives the Tsawwassen First Nation control of its land and the chance at a prosperous future, as all reserve land is transferred into the Torrens land title system, from the "Certificate of Possession" regime formerly administered under Indian and Northern Affairs Canada.
